Koren Specific Technique (KST)

In addition to the comprehensive methods (Techniques & Methods) that Dr. Andrino employs, he now also offers a unique, breakthrough approach to patient care called Koren Specific Technique. (KST)

KST relieves the stress placed on the nervous system by distortions in your body. This stress is known as a subluxation.

A subluxation is a distortion in your body & nervous system that interferes with the flow of energy and information between the mind and body. Subluxations interfere with internal communication and adversely affect body function. They can cause physical and emotional malfunction, and are often associated with loss of energy, pain, weakness and disease of all types. Subluxations may be caused by physical, chemical or emotional stress or trauma. Our purpose is to remove this stress from your mind-body complex so that you may become physically and mentally healthier.

KST permits us to quickly, easily and gently check and correct your subluxations, wherever they may arise. This includes your disc, skull (cranial bones), TMJ, entire spinal column, pelvis, hips, legs, knees, feet, chest, shoulders, elbows, hands and anything else that needs to be adjusted.

There is never any twisting, turning, “cracking” or “popping” of joints with KST. Instead, you receive gentle, specific corrections to your spine and structural system. Infants and children seen to especially enjoy the gentle vibration of the instrument.

Dr. Andrino has taken special training in the use of the Arthrostim, a chiropractic adjusting instrument designed to correct subluxations. The Arthrostim introduces a gentle force into your body at 12-14 taps per second.** This speed is technically referred to as the somato-motor rhythm beta rate that is associated with nervous system relaxation. 12 to 14 cycles per second is also considered a harmonic of the Schumann frequency, that speed helps to affect positive changes in the body.

KST is very gentle and yet very powerful. Patients usually notice dramatic changes from the first visit. Your body will likely hold its corrections for a much longer time with KST, so you can go for longer periods between adjustments.

Specificity is so important that it is part of the name of KST. But what exactly does it mean when we say that your care is specific? Why is it important?

Specificity means that we analyze your body to find out precisely what is out of position (locked, distorted, unbalanced) that is interfering with your proper function.

The interference or subluxation does not always produce symptoms. Even when symptoms are present they are diffuse or unclear to the person as to origin. To correct a subluxation specific information must be garnered. The Dr. must know the exact juxstaposition of a given segment. Is it off center to the left? Right? Front? Back? Is it torqued? Is there an incline or decline? Is it off in a combination of directions? Is it only in need of correction when you are in a certain posture or position? What posture best reveals your subluxation?

Knowing precisely in which direction your subluxation is out of position tells us where to introduce the force needed to produce a correction. The more specific the analysis, the less force needed for the correction. Because KST permits us to know, to a great degree of specificity, the precise direction of your subluxation, the least amount of force can be introduced for a correction. Clinical experience also tells us that the more specific the correction, the longer it will hold or stay in place. And, most importantly, with KST we can tell if the correction worked – did the subluxation, distortion or imbalance get realigned and rebalanced.

The procedure we use to locate your subluxations is a type of Neurological Biofeedback. This means we stimulate or challenge a specific body part and then observe how the body responds. A positive response will cause a subtle change in the nervous system that is then transmitted to the muscular system.

With KST you usually don’t have to lie down on a table to have your subluxations corrected: we often analyze and correct your structural and nervous system while you are standing or sitting. But we may ask you to lie down if a subluxation is best revealed and corrected in that position.
